What is the Pantone Color Matching System (PMS)?
The Pantone Color Matching System (PMS) is a standardized color system that recognizes nearly 5,000 subtle tones and color variations. This detailed color numbering system allows designers and print manufacturers to standardize and correctly match colors when using CMYK to overcome common variations in printed colors and produce a uniform print. What comes to mind when you think "blue"?Maybe you're thinking dark blue, like navy, or bright blue, like Tiffany Blue.In print world, just saying "blue" is not enough. There are also subtle differences between chroma and hue, leading to the Pantone color Matching System (PMS), a global "language" for understanding and matching colors.
If you want to customize printed paper box with a color that is not common, but special and unique, only the Pantone Matching System can do that. For custom paper packaging box, we only refer to Pantone C Card color reference, because this is the color reference standard only for printing on paper material.Pantone colors also have corresponding color numbers for printing on cotton and metal.
There are many benefits to using PMS.Most notably, because it is the most commonly used color matching system in the world, you can take your printed material almost anywhere to reproduce, and the printer can easily match these colors to Pantone color codes ensuring consistent results. In addition, the PMS has an excellent color range. While there are other systems on the market, they are not comparable in precision or precision to the Pantone system.
What's the difference between PMS and CMYK?
To understand the difference between PMS and CMYK, we must first understand the difference between spot color and process color.A trademark is an example of a spot color. For example, McDonald's iconic bright yellow golden arches are a name or number in a specific Pantone color that can be matched on a printing press.CMYK color, on the other hand, is a mixture of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. The difference between printing presses and many other factors means that, for example, one cyan color may not match another, resulting in a considerable color difference that is not consistent with the color you expect.
While CMYK colors are not guaranteed to be uniform across printers or even print jobs, Pantone colors are because they can be selected based on specific and globally understood names or color codes.
